Sweet Like Chocolate

Sometimes, only really seriously good chocolate will do. The Chocolate Shop is the home of high quality handmade chocolates that are so pretty they demand a full ten minutes of admiration before succumbing to a little indulgent nibbling or, in extreme cases, secret wolfing. Once they’ve been expertly wrapped and finished with a little silk rose and fairy-wing ribbon they’re ready for any occasion.

So once you’ve unglued yourself from the best our Belgian cousins can offer, it’s a trip down memory lane with traditional sweets and treats that would look at home in a fairy-tale sweetie shop. Major inspirations have come from the thirties, forties, fifties and sixties – and if we could get Willie Wonker to supply us, we would. The next, best, Umpa Lumpa-free option, is to trawl the UK’s best makers of sweets that offer an instant nostalgia hit like the smell of mown grass, a plaster on your knee or a snowman in Dad’s best scarf. So that’s what we did.

Childhood sweets = instant time travel and sharing them an excuse to talk about the good old days, so we say roll out the lollipops, outer-spacers, sherbert dips, lucky bags and mojos. And if you need a little sit down after all that excitement, there’s always the option of an ice cream in a range of summery flavours which can be licked at leisure in the Chocolate shop’s bijou little courtyard.
